Map of Medicine has teamed up with NHS Choices to provide their web-based visual representation of evidence-based patient care journeys which cover 28 medical specialties and over 340 pathways to healthcare professionals throughout England and Wales. They help the patients visualise their pathway from diagnosis to treatment, which can sometimes be a complex path, but Map of Medicine has presented the pathways in easy to follow flow charts which can be printed out and given to the patients. All health categories on HealthcarePromotions.co.uk now have a Map of Medicine added. Those in England and Wales are able to gain complete access to the Map of Medicine which is adaptable to include local services.

It is a busy time of the year for GP surgeries, as they have or are due to start promoting the flu jab. Patients who suffer from Diabetes or COPD are advised to have their annual flu jab so why not also promote the World Diabetes Day and World COPD Awareness Day alongside the flu jab. If you have the space why not put up a poster for each of the "at risk" groups which are recommended to have a flu jab.
300 pupils off sick at flu school – BBC News – 7th October A quarter of pupils at a West Lothian High school are off sick, some of them suffering from flu-like symptoms. About 300 Linlithgow Academy pupils have called in sick over the past few days, with 14 now confirmed as having swine flu. More than 100 have been showing symptoms of the virus. West Lothian Council has written to all parents as a precautionary measure but it stressed there were no plans to close schools in the area. NHS Lothian said most people were likely to experience mild symptoms. Hygiene measures Gordon Ford, West Lothian Council's director of education, said of the 290 pupils that were off sick 135 pupils were absent with flu-like symptoms. He said: "We have taken the decision to write to all parents and carers in the Linlithgow area as a precaution. "Parents should make sure their children are washing their hands regularly, and that they cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, with a tissue if possible." UK swine flu vaccine ‘approved’ – BBC News – 25th September The European drugs regulator has given the go-ahead for one of the UK's swine flu vaccines. An expert committee agreed that Pandemrix, made by GlaxoSmithKline, can be used in adults and children over six months old and pregnant women. The decision removes one of the last obstacles to getting the immunisation programme under way although licensing still needs to be formalised. The UK has bought 60 million doses of the vaccine. In addition, there are contracts for an as yet unapproved vaccine, Celvapan, produced by Baxter. It means the UK has provision for up to 132 million doses - enough for every person in the country. The number of new cases of swine flu in England has almost doubled over the last seven days to 9,000, official figures show. Vaccination is due to start in October.
